In case you didn’t know, it’s the seventh level of hell here in NY this week. Well, if you put a lake in hell to produce ridiculous humidity and grouchier people. It’s too damn hot to do anything. Outside is hot, the gym is hot, your ac is cranked, you take multiple showers, nothing helps.
Here’s the thing, when you’re breastfeeding you are much more easily dehydrated, and it’s not safe to work out in crazy hot conditions. It also decreases your supply, which would really bum me out!!! Yesterday, in the evening, I took Elijah to the park to go cray cray in the sprinklers. He was pretty sure I was a rockstar. I’m inclined to agree. I stood out there in the heat so he could run through a glorified hose coming out of the ground. (JK, I totally let it hit my legs.) Last night, we did manage to take a long walk as a family, and it was lovely. When you have kids, you forget how nice walks in the dark are. Don’t worry, none of us ended up with west nile.
So here at the Tan house, we are hibernating! Having dance parties, making up silly moves, doing squats, etc. We’ll probably watch “Across the Universe” and “Star Wars” for the 98735983256345th time. Hopefully, sometime tonight, I will be able to leave my house and go to the gym. As it stands right now, the 3 year old is listening to “The Floor Show” from Rocky Horror and breakdancing. I tried to get him to use a feather boa, but he wasn’t into it. If it was good enough for Barry Bostwick…
Last night for dinner, it was the return of MEATLESS MONDAY!! I made whole wheat pasta with spinach, peas, parm, and dippy egg. YUM.
1/2 of a 1lb bag frozen organic chopped spinach
1/2 of a bag of organic frozen peas
3 cloves of garlic
1 t lemon zest
3 T EVOO
salt and pepper
red pepper flakes
shaved parm to taste
1 egg per person (fried sunny side up or over easy on a griddle)
Boil pasta per directions on box. In a separate skillet combine all other ingredients save for parm and eggs. Sautee until warm and fragrant. Add MOSTLY drained pasta and toss together. Add parm and fried egg and GO! When you eat it, the gooey egg yolk goes down over the pasta in the most wonderful way.
This morning for breakfast, I made overnight oats for 2! Elijah and I devoured them like it was our job.
1/2 cup of rolled oats
3/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
tablespoon of honey
one mashed banana
I combined all of these in a nearly empty peanut butter jar (jif natural) and stuck it in the fridge overnight. Sooo good. Stupid good.
