Do They Have Chocolate in Azkaban?

Happy Sunday! As I sit and watch Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for the 3493046934690th time, you are probably still in your jammies, drinking your coffee. It’s a damnably delightful thing to do on a Sunday, no?

I suppose it’s a good thing I have the perfect Sunday Sweet recipe for you to enjoy with your coffee.

It’s a peasant bread, it’s made with cocoa and extra dark chocolate chips. It’s effing amazeballs with peanut butter. It’s like a friggen Christmas miracle.

Double Chocolate Peasant Bread

Prep Time: 2+hours, mostly rising time

Cook Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients (1 loaf)

  • 3 cups whole wheat flour+more as needed
  • 1/2 cup extra dark cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup maple sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 packet dry active yeast
  • 1/2 cup milk 110F
  • 1 cup extra dark chocolate chips
  • 6 tbsp softened butter

Instructions

combine sugar, milk, and yeast in the bottom of the mixing bowl

when yeast starts to bubble to the surface, start kneading in flour with dough hook and add cocoa, 1/2 cup at a time

add salt about 1/2 through adding flour

add chips with salt

when dough forms cut in butter 1 tbsp at a time

knead with dough hook until dough comes back together, adding a few tbsp of flour at a time until dough slaps the sides of the bowl

knead 5 more minutes

dump dough into a buttered 3qt casserole dish, covered with tea towel, let proof, punching down after an hour

after another hour of proofing, bake in a 375F oven for 45 minutes or until center registers 200F
