Warm Ginger Butterbeer

It’s been roughly a year or more since I’ve done a Sunday Sweet. Typically, the format was that I’d write a quick post, wish you well, and give you a recipe to satisfy your sweet tooth.

As it’s now the holiday season, I thought it as good a time as any to bring back Sunday Sweet. I’m also considering bringing back Waffle Wednesday.  Mostly because I just made these fantastic waffles that pretty much made me drool into my breakfast.

I still ate it.

Onto the sugar.

All of you know I am a bit of a nerd. I am a Whovian. I love Sherlock. I watch more shows on the BBC than I do on US channels. (save the premium stuff. I love me some Starz, Showtime, and HBO.) I have read and re-read the Harry Potter series more times than what could be considered normal. In all honesty, just making this recipe and writing this blog has me itching to pick it up again. The whole series. I can’t read just one. I start at The Philosopher’s Stone (as it appeared in the UK) and end with Why is this series over? OMG YOU KILLED SNAPE? YOU BASTARDS! DOBBY!! NOOOOOOO!!!!

Warm Ginger Butterbeer

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients (2 drinks)

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp dark brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 oz vanilla or plain vodka
  • 2 oz Amaretto
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • few grates of fresh nutmeg


in a saucepan on medium low

add butter, brown sugar, vanilla, and spices

whisk until fully melted

add in 1 1/2 cups milk

whisk until hot

remove from heat

whisk in alcohols

pour into two mugs

make the froth

microwave 1/2 cup of milk on high for 50 seconds

using a frother, a whisk, or quick blender, make a good froth

top drinks with foam
